Bring Your Own Tires for Installation in Rapid City — New or Used

Where to Install Tires You Purchased Elsewhere in Rapid City
Some tire shops sell tires and install them as a package, while others may accept tires the customer already owns. Hills Tire & Supply installs customer-brought tires, including suitable used tires. Acceptance depends on a professional assessment, the tire condition, correct fitment and the shop’s current service capacity. This does not guarantee approval of any specific tire.

Before You Bring Tires to the Shop
Provide the full tire dimensions, year/make/model and wheel size. Confirm load index or load range and speed rating match the vehicle’s requirements.
If the tires are secondhand, mention any known repairs, unusual wear, damage, age or storage concerns. Unknown history warrants extra caution.
Confirm whether mounting, balancing, TPMS/valve services, tire disposal, taxes and other charges apply. Never assume a retailer’s installation package rate applies to a separate walk-in job.
The technician may need to inspect inside and outside the tire, assess bead and sidewall condition and decline damaged or incompatible tires. Approval must come from the shop.
Used tires can have an unknown service, repair or storage history. Even a tire that looks fine outside can have damage that is visible only during an internal inspection after demounting. The U.S. Tire Manufacturers Association’s used-tire guidance recommends examination by a qualified service professional. Shops should not install an unsafe, unsuitable or improperly matched tire.
Also confirm tire size, load/speed requirements and drivetrain matching. USTMA tire replacement guidance explains why mismatched specifications matter.
Customer-Owned New Tires vs. Used Tires
New Tires Ordered Online
Check the exact size, ratings and retailer specifications before ordering. Arrange shipping and installation only through a provider that explicitly agrees to the delivery and mounting arrangement.
Used Tires You Bring In
A used tire’s previous use and repairs may not be known. A shop must assess condition and vehicle suitability and may refuse mounting. Don’t purchase based on size alone.
For new-tire delivery through Tire Rack, its national installer program may show participating shops by ZIP code. Hills’ Tire Rack Recommended Installer membership is not verified; a separate direct appointment at Hills is not equivalent to selecting a Tire Rack network installer.
Bring-Your-Own Tire Installation FAQs
Will Hills mount used tires I bring in?
Hills offers installation of customer-supplied used tires, provided the tire passes professional inspection and is suitable for the wheel and vehicle. Call (605) 343-4424 to discuss your tires first.
Can I bring tires purchased from an online retailer?
Ask the shop in advance. Hills can install suitable customer-owned new tires, but confirm current scheduling, policy and installation charges before ordering or shipping anything.
Do I need a matching tire size?
Yes. The tire must meet the vehicle’s size and load/speed specifications and be compatible with the wheel. Vehicles with AWD/4WD or mismatched tires may have additional manufacturer restrictions; consult the shop and owner’s manual.
Will a shop install a tire with sidewall damage or an unknown repair?
A shop may refuse any tire that fails inspection or is inappropriate for safe service. Unknown repairs and sidewall/innerliner damage are reasons for additional scrutiny, not an assurance that the tire can be mounted.
How much does mounting customer-supplied tires cost?
No verified direct-shop installation price is published here. Ask about the exact mounted/balanced out-the-door cost, tire disposal and any necessary valve or TPMS work.
